The Libertines Return With Full Line-Up
Troubled LIBERTINES star PETE DOHERTY thrilled fans in London last night (07JUN04) by joining his bandmates onstage for an impromptu gig, despite announcing he'd quit the group two weeks ago.
Doherty - who has been battling an addiction to drugs at clinics in London and Paris - stunned onlookers at new Mayfair club INFINITY when he asked little-known headlining band THE BOXER REBELLION if he and his musical colleagues could borrow their instruments.
The spontaneous show started with Doherty leading the crowd in a chorus of HAPPY BIRTHDAY for fellow Libertines frontman CARL BARAT - who turned 26 on Sunday (06JUN04) - before launching into their hits DON'T LOOK BACK INTO THE SUN and forthcoming single CAN'T STAND ME.
Doherty - who checked out of rehab at THE PRIORY hospital in London yesterday morning - also used the gig to prove comments he'd made in a British tabloid claiming that Carl had neglected him had not hindered their friendship, and the pair embraced before taking to the stage.08/06/2004 13:41
