The Dixie Chicks Take Roost At Country Gala

19 May 2003

THE Dixie Chicks are reclaiming the spotlight in America after weathering months of criticism - by performing at the ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS.

The country trio faced a vicious backlash after lead singer Natalie Maines declared during a London performance that she and her bandmates were "ashamed" American President George W Bush hailed from their home state Texas.

But now, after a string of sold-out concerts, the singers are scheduled to perform via satellite from Austin, Texas, for the Tennessee-based awards ceremony on Wednesday (21MAY03).

Also performing on the show, which is hosted by Reba McEntire, are BROOKS + DUNN, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Willie Nelson and SHANIA TWAIN.
