Suge Shooting May Have Been Accidental

LATEST: Miami police are investigating the possibility hip-hop mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight was shot by accident on Saturday night (27AUG05) - either by himself or by a member of his entourage.

The 40-year-old star was shot in the leg during a pre-MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) party in Miami Beach, Florida, just moments after enthusing to the assembled press how tensions within the hip-hop community are calming down.

Despite the hundreds of party-goers present at the time of the incident, no one has been able to describe the assailant, which is causing the police great investigative difficulties.

Miami Beach Police spokesman BOBBY HERNANDEZ says, "We don't have a physical description," .

"We're looking at it as being anything from an accidental discharge, maybe a member of his own entourage."

Knight is in intensive care at Mount Sinai Medical Centre, Miami Beach after undergoing surgery on his shattered leg bone.
