Stella Broke Law For Secret Wedding
Newlywed Stella Mccartney kept details of her wedding secret, after Scottish officials let her break the law.
Scottish law requires couples to post a public notice announcing a marriage 15 days in advance.
But Stella, who married ALASDHAIR WILLIS on the Isle of Bute on Saturday (30AUG03), only informed locals of the nuptials an hour before they took place - after the couple were given permission to waive the rules by a senior Scottish official, on security grounds.
The move has angered Scottish politicians who feel Stella and Alasdhair should have been forced to follow the law.
Conservative spokeswoman ANNABEL GOLDIE says, "There are valid reasons for publishing a notice of the intent to marry. There will be circumstances where it allows a member of the public to come forward to object."04/09/2003 02:42
