Steadman Rues Thompson's Death

Cartoonist RALPH STEADMAN is inconsolable following the death of colleague and friend HUNTER S THOMPSON, because there is no-one left to fight the "evil" powers in charge of the world.

Steadman worked alongside Thompson, adding satirical cartoons to his political commentary and illustrating Thompson's novel FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS.

Thompson committed suicide at his Aspen, Colorado, estate in February (05) aged 67 - and Steadman fears there's no-one left to challenge those in power.

He says, "Since Hunter's death, everything's been a hell of a mess. I don't know how to deal with it; it seems like everything that mattered is in the past. What we did together was a hugely significant gesture against the forces... the forces of evil you could say.

"Now I just feel absolutely disappointed."
