Spacey: 'History Will Prove Me Right Over Old Vic'
Kevin Spacey has likened the press persecution of his management of London's Old Vic theatre to fellow American actor Sam Wanamaker's attempts to rebuild Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in the same city in the 1970s.
Despite much media derision, Wanamaker's Globe has proved a triumph - and Spacey believes history will prove his stint has artistic director at the Old Vic equally successful.
He says, "The amount of negative, dismissive commentary that was written about that dream was, as far as I am concerned, embarrassing.
"But Sam kept his head high and kept his vision despite the insulting commentary.
"All this stuff will fade. Just like it did with Sam Wanamaker. Maybe in five year's time they will realise that I am still coming to work every day."
