Slater Hated Replacing Phoenix
Actor CHRISTIAN SLATER felt so guilty about replacing RIVER PHOENIX in INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, he donated his pay cheque to charity.
The screen star - currently wowing British audiences in London stage show ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST - was devastated by Phoenix's untimely death in October 1993 and had serious doubts about whether or not to take over his role.
Slater says, "That was a little uncomfortable. I really was hesitant to do it. I ended up donating my fee to one of River Phoenix's charities, so that helped me feel like I was doing it in honour of him, that it wasn't like I was taking a pay cheque from him."29/11/2004 09:21
