Sideways Triumph At Southeastern Critics Awards

Road trip comedy SIDEWAYS has triumphed yet again with the critics after picking up Best Film and Best Director at this year's (04)

SOUTHEASTERN FILM CRITICS ASSOCIATION.

ALEXANDER PAYNE's film about two friends - played by PAUL GIAMATTI and THOMAS HADEN CHURCH - taking a wine-tasting trip across California won two gongs at the annual awards in Knoxville, Tennessee yesterday (20DEC04).

So far Sideways has won accolades at this year's GOTHAM AWARDS, THE NATIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW, LOS ANGELES FILM CRITICS ASSOCIATION AWARDS, NEW YORK FILM CRITICS ONLINE, NEW YORK FILM CRITICS CIRCLE and the BOSTON SOCIETY OF FILM CRITICS and has been nominated for seven GOLDEN GLOBES next month (JAN05).

JAMIE FOXX was honoured again for his canny performance as RAY CHARLES in biopic RAY, while ANNETTE BENING received an accolade for Best Actress with BEING JULIA.

Other winners on Monday include CHARLIE KAUFMAN for Best Original Screenplay with ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, MICHAEL MOORE's FAHRENHEIT 9/11 for Best Documentary and MARIA FULL OF GRACE was named Best Foreign-Language Film.
