Shakur Sits Atop Uk Singles Chart For Second Week

Late rapper TUPAC SHAKUR has fought off competition from CHARLOTTE CHURCH to notch up a second successive week at the top of the UK singles chart, with his smash hit GHETTO GOSPEL.

The hip-hop star's song features vocals by SIR ELTON JOHN and was remixed by EMINEM from LOYAL TO THE GAME, an album which was released last year (04).

Ghetto Gospel is Shakur's 13th posthumous hit - his first popular track in Britain, I AIN'T MAD AT CHA charted at 13 just two months (NOV96) after his fatal shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, in September 1996.

The track was expected to be beaten by Church's single CRAZY CHICK, which entered the chart at number two, followed by JAMES BLUNT's ballad YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL, which stayed at number three.

Cartoon amphibian, CRAZY FROG's remake of HAROLD FALTERMEYER's BEVERLY HILLS COP movie theme tune caused controversy by becoming the first ringtone to cross to the mainstream music charts and claim the number one spot.

But the critically-mauled track has finally dropped two places to number four, followed by SHOT YOU DOWN by AUDIO BULLYS and NANCY SINATRA, which gained renewed popularity after the BBC used it as the themetune for their current Wimbledon tennis coverage.

Meanwhile, COLDPLAY's third disc X+Y remains at the top of the album charts for a fourth week, while Blunt's BACK TO BEDLAM stays at number two.
