Second Member Of Compact Killed

Romanian rocker EMIL LAGHIA was stabbed to death on Friday (03JUN05) - the second member of COMPACT to be killed in half a year.

According to local media reports, the 36-year-old guitarist may have been murdered by his girlfriend during an argument in Tulcea.

Laghia lived in the Danube River port city with his girlfriend, who police are now questioning her, and their child.

Despite the killing, Compact reportedly went ahead with a concert the following day (04JUN05) in Bacau.

Six months ago, bassist TEOFIL PETER was killed in an accident involving a US Marine.

The US Marine Corps has charged a sergeant with negligent homicide in connection with Peter's death, while the US embassy established a memorial fellowship in his honour.
