Scorsese And Extras Triumph At Banff Festival

MARTIN SCORSESE's 2005 documentary NO DIRECTION HOME: BOB DYLAN triumphed at the 27th Banff Rockie Awards in Alberta, Canada, last night (12JUN06). The Dylan chronicle, which has been aired on the BBC and on public television in the United States, was chosen by an international jury, and also scooped the top prize at the Banff World Television Festival. For the second consecutive year, British producers took the bulk of trophies, overcoming competition from their American counterparts. British independent producers walked away with seven Banff Rockie awards, including Best Comedy for BBC2's EXTRAS: KATE WINSLET, Best Continuing Series for BBC1's LIFE ON MARS and Best Lifestyle Programme for Channel 4's JAMIE'S SCHOOL DINNERS. US producers earned trophies for PBS's THE HOBART SHAKESPEAREANS, and for sports programme VIVA BASEBALL, among others. Two British-US co-productions were also successful; BBC and HBO's CHILDREN OF BESLAN won the social and political documentary prize and BBC and WGBH Boston's BLEAK HOUSE was Best Mini-Series.
