Scissor Sisters Are A Cut Above At The Brits

New York pop-rockers SCISSOR SISTERS were the big winners at Wednesday's (09FEB05) BRIT AWARDS - taking home three accolades including Best International Group and Best Album.

The LAURA fivesome open the 25th annual ceremony in London's Earls Court 2 with a performance of their hit song TAKE YOUR MAMA, before picking up Best International Breakthrough Act, Best International group and Best International album for their eponymous debut disc.

Other big winners on the night were East Sussex, England trio KEANE, who were named Best British Breakthrough Artist and Best British Album for their best-selling HOPES AND FEARS disc, while Scots rockers FRANZ FERDINAND triumphed in the Best British Rock Act and Best British Group.

Franz Ferdinand went on to dedicate their Best Group accolade to late BBC DJ JOHN PEEL, who died of a heart attack in Peru last October (04)

Shock losers of the night were JAMELIA and NATASHA BEDINGFIELD, who despite picking up three nominations each, lost out to chart rival, soul sensation JOSS STONE.

The 17-year-old singer was so shocked she "felt sick", when she won Best British Female Solo Artist and Best British Urban Act.

In between award presentations, the crowd were entertained with a duet of AIN'T NOBODY by Bedingfield and her brother DANIEL, Jamelia and LEMAR's re-working of ROBERT PALMER's ADDICTED TO LOVE, GREEN DAY, SNOOP DOGG and winners Stone and ROBBIE WILLIAMS on his 1997 classic ballad ANGELS, which was named the favourite song of the past 25 years of Brit awards.
