Schwarzenegger Slammed For Consultant Revenue

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER has come under fire, following the discovery he is being paid $1 million (GBP550,000) a year as a consultant to a company that publishes fitness magazines.

The payments, revealed yesterday (13JUL05) in filings at the US Securities and Exchange Commission, are from American Media Operations, a subsidiary of the company that publishes magazines including Flex and Muscle + Fitness.

Critics say the contract is a conflict of interest because California Governor Schwarzenegger's pay comes from advertising revenue and the magazines often feature advertisements about dietary supplements.

Last year (04), Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill that would have imposed government regulations on the dietary supplement industry.

Bill sponsor Senator JACKIE SPEIER is calling on Schwarzenegger to cut off all ties with the magazines, adding, "Whether it is an actual conflict or not, it certainly gives the appearance of being a conflict."

Schwarzenegger's spokeswoman MARGITA THOMPSON insists the deal with the magazines does not represent a conflict of interest.

Schwarzenegger's consulting contract calls for him to receive one per cent of the magazines' advertising revenue each year for five years - a sum that could total $8 million (GBP4.4 million).

The TERMINATOR star announced last year that he had agreed to serve as executive editor for Muscle + Fitness and Flex. He writes monthly columns for both, but his salary for those jobs has not been revealed.

Could George Clooney Be President Of The United States In 2020? 4245939 News

In an unexpected turn of events Hollywood actor George Clooney has decided to venture into the world of politics. 53-year-old Clooney is allegedly planning to run for the Governor of California position and is already being wooed by Obama’s Democrat party who are vying for him to run for office in 2018.

George ClooneyGeorge Clooney for President?

The decision to switch careers comes not too long after the announcement that Clooney plans to wed British human rights lawyer, Amal Alamuddin. Perhaps his fiancee’s super serious career has encouraged the Ocean’s Eleven star reassess the course of his life? It’s thought that Alamuddin wants to continue with her career in London once the nuptials are out of the way, but may one day happily move over to the US to support her husband’s budding new career.

A source explained: “George is already hugely popular with the Democrats and were better place to put him than as the Governor of California the home of Hollywood. It has always been a huge stronghold for the party and one that has a proven record for getting politicians in to the Oval office.”

Clooney is already good friends with current US President, Barack Obama, so he’s already got a few useful contacts. Just a few months ago Clooney headed over to the White House to catch a screening of his movie, The Monuments Men, with the president. Alamuddin attended the special screening with her future-husband and witnesses claim the couple were “stuck like glue together” and “holding hands.”

A source added: “Now that Amal is by his side it has boosted his credentials even higher. She is as far removed as some of the girls he has previously dated and possesses incredible intelligence that bodes well if she ever does become First Lady.”

Clooney isn’t the first actor to become a politician. Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States, landed a Hollywood role in 1937 and appeared in over 50 films before being elected Governor of California in 1966. Perhaps Clooney will use Reagan as a model for his own career?

Clint Eastwood may be one of the world’s greatest actors and directors, but he also gave politics a good go. He ran for office in Carmel, California in 1986 and although he served just one-two year term in that time he managed to champion environmental issues and approve the building of an ice cream parlour - which was one of his campaign promises.

No-one took Arnold Schwarzenegger seriously when he decided to run for Governor of California. More fool them, he actually managed to win and has since become know as The Governator.  He was even voted in for a second term, which finished in 2011.

James Cameron Is Involved in 'Terminator: Genesis': This Is Good News 4225625 News

Good news for fans of both James Cameron and Terminator. It's emerged that the Avatar director is loosely involved with Terminator: Genesis. Early rumors suggested cross-integration between a new narrative and classic scenes from the original movies and Cameron's involvement adds credence to the speculation.

Arnold SchwarzeneggerArnold Schwarzenegger Stars in Terminator: Genesis

Alan Taylor is currently in New Orleans shooting the new Terminator movie, which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clark, Matt Smith, Aaron V. Williamson and J.K Simmons.

More: Wait, could 'Terminator: Genesis' actually be...good?

Cameron gave a Q&A at the Hero Complex Film Festival, where he confirmed his involvement.

"....when the new round of 'Terminator' films, they're making the first one and I think there's meant to be two, when Megan Ellison bought the rights, she asked me if I wanted to be involved. I said "Well look. I don't mind standing behind the curtain and whispering like some court advisory in 15th century Italy or something." My goal in that was not to insinuate myself artistically but to try to make sure they stayed true to the Terminator character and the idea of Arnold being in it. Because he's a friend of mine and we've been through all the wars together and everything. And I wanted them to see the possibilities I saw for what they could do with this character.

"And then David Ellison took the project over from Megan and he and I met a couple times. And so Arnold is very much front and center in the new Terminator films. So I might have had some tiny effect on it - but obviously they had to make the right financial and creative decisions themselves so I'm not trying to take credit for the film that they're making but that was my goal in being loosely attached to the film but I won't have any credit on it."

Terminator: Genesis hits theaters on July 1, 2015.

Sabotage's Arnold Schwarzenneger Says SWAT Teams Move Like Ballet Dancers 4190276 News

At age 66, following two terms as California's governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back on the big screen and making up for lost time. And his new film Sabotage gives him an unusually dark character, albeit one who runs around shooting big guns and beating up people just like pretty much everyone else he's played. So was he looking for a more complexity in this role?

Arnold SchwarzeneggerArnold Schwarzenneger Is Back With 'Sabotage'

"I don't have a master plan," he said while in London to promote the film. "I think it has something to do with being at a certain age. Especially coming out of a government job, you see the world as complex as it really is. Therefore you start getting attracted to characters that are written as more three-dimensional. Maybe 20 years ago I wouldn't have been attracted to that very same script."

Schwarzenegger doesn't think his character Breacher is necessarily bad. "He's a good guy, although he's also someone who deviates from his mission," he said. "His mission is to wipe out the drug cartel and get rid of the drugs. But he starts looking for revenge because they've tortured and killed his family. So he becomes a flawed hero."

More: Arnold Schwarzenegger "excited" for Conan movie

He also explained that Breacher is incapable of going home after work and switching off, which is something he has no trouble doing as an actor. Although he still works out every night when he's making a movie.

At least he was able to learn something new for Sabotage. "I've handled a lot of different weapons in my life in movies, but the DEA and SWAT handle weapons in different ways," he observes. "The way they breach doors and storm buildings without killing the good guys but taking out the bad guys - you have to learn that and study it. It's sort of like ballet the way they move. And that made it really interesting."

Even so, Schwarzenegger's next three films will see him returning to his back-catalogue to reprise his roles in sequels to The Terminator, Conan the Barbarian and Twins. Yes, for Triplets he'll team with Danny DeVito and long-lost brother Eddie Murphy, probably without big guns. But you never know with Arnie.

Sabotage 4184942 Film Reviews

Arnold Schwarzenegger gets one of his most complex roles yet in this messy, violent thriller, another trip to the dark side for filmmaker David Ayer. As in Training Day and End of Watch, Ayer is exploring that moral tipping point where the people charged with protecting society become a danger. But the formula sags badly in this sloppily written script, which relies on grotesque violence instead of a coherent plot.

Schwarzenegger plays Breacher, the head of an elite DEA squad that has just stolen $10m in drug-bust cash. But someone takes it from them, after which the team members start turning up murdered in increasingly vicious ways. So Breacher and his colleagues - hothead Monster (Sam Worthington), prickly Lizzy (Mireille Enos), beefy Grinder (Joe Manganiello), hotshot Next (Josh Holloway) and smoothie Sugar (Terrence Howard) - band together to find the killer. Meanwhile, two local Atlanta cops (Olivia Williams and Harold Perrineau) are also on the case, clashing with Breacher at every turn. And shadowy goons hired by a drug cartel are lying in wait.

For about two-thirds of the running time, this is actually an intriguing whodunit, complete with clues and red herrings, suspicions and surprises. There's also a sense of urgency, as we never know who's going to get it next. Although the escalating grisliness is hard to stomach (it even reduces seasoned cops to retching wrecks), as is a hint of unnecessary romance. Then when the truth is revealed, the whole movie collapses into utter nonsense, desperately straining for moral resonance but undermining its own point with gratuitous brutality.

Schwarzenegger holds the film together with an unusually thuggish performance, even if the more subtle dramatic moments are beyond his acting reach. Meanwhile, Worthington gets a few strong scenes of his own, while Williams walks off with the movie in yet another remarkably textured turn. Through it all, Ayer wildly indulges in the violence, reminding us that Breacher's family was hideously tortured and killed by a drug kingpin, as if that justifies the carnage to come. It doesn't.

"The thing is, I've been implanted with a chip where, if I talk about it, my head explodes," said Smith during a question and answer session at Wizard World Minneapolis.
