Schwarzenegger Animal Termination Plans Meet Opposition
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER's plans to terminate thousands of stray animals has been met with opposition from pet lovers in America.
The Governor of California, 56, has encountered a storm of protest from animal lovers - after he had hoped to save $18 million (GBP10 million) by slaughtering stray dogs and cats in animal shelters.
The TERMINATOR star had asked the California legislature to repeal a 1998 law that requires the shelters to hold animals up to six days before destroying it.
BARBARA O'CONNOR, a doctor at California State University, says, "Pet owners in America will find this reprehensible. Cats and dogs are like mom and apple pie.
"Most people prefer them to other people."27/06/2004 15:04
