Schindler Factory To Become Art Museum

The factory which inspired the Steven Spielberg movie Schindler's List is to become a museum housing works of art and a permanent exhibition dedicated to OSKAR SCHINDLER - the saviour of hundreds of Jews during World War II.

Schindler set up the factory during the holocaust and employed Jews to save them from death camps - it is estimated he rescued a total of 1,200 Jews. He died aged 66 in 1974.

The 1993 film won seven Oscars.

Local authorities are hoping to secure $1.8 million (GBP1 million) of European funding towards the project which is expected to be passed later this year (05).

Swin,Why do we need another museum you ask? So we never forget you ass. Yes there were many, many others who helped out the jews and other nationalitites during the Holocaust and they should be honoured as well. If we forget what happend it will repeat itself. In ten, fifteen, fifty, or a hundrend years from now what happened by slaughtering 6,000,000 Jews, and millions of others by the nazis could be forgotten. Honour and remember our heros.

That's nice, but do we really need still another?By the way, where's the Raul Wallenberg museum? That famous Swede actively helped thousands too. How about the many churchmen who hid or ferried Jews out in the European equivalent of an "underground railroad" (term used in the US Civil War for secreting slaves out of the American South). Then there was a Japanese diplomat, etc. For that matter, the Bulgarians deserve some recognition for their king and legislature purposely obfuscating procedures so that none of their Jews were shipped out into the German execution machinery. It wasn't just Shindler and it wasn't just Jews.
