Sarandon And Robbins. Movie Party Called Off
A celebration of Hollywood couple TIM ROBBINS and SUSAN SARANDON's movie BILL DURHAM has been cancelled - because of their decision to speak out against the war in Iraq.
The baseball HALL OF FAME has cancelled a planned 15th anniversary bash for the film, that was to feature the co-stars.
Hall president DALE PETROSKEY sent a letter to Robbins and Sarandon this week (ends11APR03), saying the 26-27 April (03) festivities in Cooperstown, New York, have been called off because of their remarks opposing combat in Iraq.
Petroskey, a former WHITE HOUSE assistant press secretary under ex-President RONALD REAGAN, says recent comments by the screen stars "ultimately could put our troops in even more danger".
Robbins says he's "dismayed" by the decision, adding he intends to send a letter to Petroskey retaliating, "You belong with the cowards and idealogues in a hall of infamy and shame."
The weekend affair, planned months ago, was also to feature Bill Durham actor ROBERT WUHL and RON SHELTON, who wrote and directed the 1988 film.
