Saint Etienne Slam Young And Melua's Ve Gig
Pop trio SAINT ETIENNE have slammed WILL YOUNG and KATIE MELUA's "disrespectful" performances at last month's (08MAY05) concert for London's wartime survivors, marking the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) day.
The IS IT TRUE? stars believe Young and Melua made a mockery of the 15,000 veterans who descended on the British capital's famous Trafalgar Square by turning the event into a false celebration of those who fought and died in World War II.
Keyboardist PETE WIGGS says, "I didn't understand that VE Day thing at all. Katie Melua and Will Young doing THE BOOGIE WOOGIE BUGLE BOY OF COMPANY B makes you wonder what an 80 year old would think of it. 'Did we fight the war for this?'
"The end of the war is important, but do you really want to celebrate it in this fake, jolly way? It should have been a bit less showbiz and a bit more, I don't know, respectful. VERA LYNNE's still going. They could have had her."10/06/2005 19:26
