Rowling Portrait Unveiled

A portrait of Harry Potter author Jk Rowling has been unveiled by UK institution The National Portrait Gallery to honour her contribution to British culture.

The author, whose children's books have inspired a hugely-successful series of Hollywood movies, is thrilled by the tribute, which shows her sitting at a table and symbolises her dual role as a mother and writer.

SANDY NAIRN, director of the National Portrait Gallery says, "This is a captivating portrait with more than a touch of magic. JK Rowling is delightfully portrayed with delicacy and charm."

The Gallery commissioned artist STUART PEARSON to capture Rowling's likeness.

The gallery was founded in 1856 to collect likenesses of famous British men and women. Other recent additions include soccer star David Beckham and DAME Judi Dench.
