Rossdale Makes A Stand For Cbgb
British rocker GAVIN ROSSDALE was among the last big names making a stand for New York punk mecca CBGB yesterday (31AUG05) as the club fights closure.
The former BUSH singer's new band INSTITUTE was among acts performing at a Save CBGB rally, hosted by BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN's sidekick and THE SOPRANOS star STEVEN VAN ZANDT, in Washington Square Park.
The lease at the Bowery's punk club, expired at midnight last night (31AUG05) and fans of the place are still waiting to hear whether owner HILLY KRISTAL has been able to keep the venue's doors open.
The Bowery Residents' Committee is pushing Kristal to sign off on a new deal, handing the club back to them. They've raised his rent in a bid to move him on.
Punk greats like the MISFITS, TOMMY RAMONE and DEBORAH HARRY were among the acts who performed at the club as part of a month long festival to raise funds for Kristal.
