Ridley Scott Bemused By Critical Mauling
Movie-maker RIDLEY SCOTT is baffled by critics' passionate hatred for his period epic THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, because he only intended it as light-entertainment.
Scott was especially startled by critics who pointed out inaccuracies in the film's portrayal of the 12th century crusades.
He says, "I didn't understand what they were getting so worked up about. It's only a movie, a form of entertainment.
"When people started to behave as if it was a documentary filmed at a particular moment, it got kind of ridiculous. They talked about it not being "historically accurate". How do they know? They weren't there, were they?
"It's a bit like watching a football match, at the end of the day it's only a game, mate. Why are you tearing off the head of the person in front?"
