Record Bosses Hire Private Detective To Find Peyroux

Record bosses are so concerned with the fate of jazz singer MADELEINE PEYROUX, they've hired a private detective to hunt the elusive star down.

Universal Classics are desperate to locate American singer Peyroux - whose latest album, CARELESS LOVE, is moving up the charts - as she has failed to turn up to recent promotional events and is proving "impossible to track down".

A label spokeswoman says: "She should be overjoyed with the album's chart position, but she has now returned to America and is proving impossible to track down.

"Anxious record company bosses and her management company have been trying to contact her for nearly a week to no avail. She has simply disappeared.

"(We) have gone to great lengths to protect Madeleine from burn-out through too much promotional work.

"But it would seem that despite these efforts Ms Peyroux has had enough.

"She is that rare thing, an artist more interested in her music than in the glitz and glamour of showbusiness."

Peyroux, whose voice has been compared to BILLIE HOLIDAY, spent seven years busking on the streets of Paris, France following the release of her debut album DREAMLAND in 1996.
