The dance tune, a cover of former TRAFFIC frontman STEVE WINWOOD's 1982 song VALERIE, again held GIRLS ALOUD's LOVE MACHINE at bay, which remains at number two.
NELLY's MY PLACE/FLAP YOUR WINGS and teen singer JOJO's LEAVE (GET OUT) both moved up a place to finish numbers three and four respectively.
GREEN DAY dropped two places to number five with their US President GEORGE W BUSH-baiting song AMERICAN IDIOT.
Green Day also managed to top the British album charts with their latest effort, also titled AMERICAN IDIOT. The punk rockers knocked EMBRACE's comeback disc OUT OF NOTHING down to second place.
At number three, MAROON 5's SONGS ABOUT JANE continues to prove its longevity: it rose again to number three, after spending last week in fourth place.
