Producer Scott Brazil Dies
Emmy award-winning producer/director SCOTT BRAZIL died on Monday (17APR06) after suffering respiratory fail. He was 50. Brazil, who worked on police dramas HILL STREET BLUES and THE SHIELD, had been suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and lyme disease, according to FX Networks spokesperson JOHN SOLBERG. Brazil, who directed 11 episodes of The Shield as well as producing it, won the 2002 Golden Globe for TV drama along with the show's creator/executive producer SHAWN RYAN. Towards the end of his life, Brazil continued to work on The Shield, using a motorised wheelchair to go about his duties. Ryan says, "He worked (last) Thursday, working to the very last day, talking to the writers, doing casting and prepping our next episode. "That's what made all this so stunning for us. We're kind of shocked." Brazil also directed episodes of CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, GREY'S ANATOMY and NIP/TUCK. He is survived by his wife MARIE and his two children LINDSAY and MARK.
