Polanski Nearly Missed Oscar Win

THE PIANIST director ROMAN POLANSKI almost missed TV coverage of Sunday's ACADEMY AWARDS - where he was named Best Director.

Polanski was watching the show in a Paris hotel when his five-year-old son ELVIS took a fall and had to be rushed to a doctor.

The boy had to get five stitches on his forehead.
