Pinkett Smith Takes On Girl Power After Daughter's Sex Query
Actress JADA PINKETT SMITH is already tackling sexual issues with her four-year-old daughter WILLOW.
THE MATRIX star was inspired to write new book GIRLS HOLD UP THIS WORLD by her young daughter's take on what she sees on TV.
She says, "There's so many issues to deal with at such an early age. I mean I had my daughter, at four-years-old, talking about is she sexy because what she sees on TV, in music.
"She wanted to wear a little mid-riff (top) because she was like, 'Will I be cute, will I be sexy like this?'
"I said, 'Does mummy have to do that? Does mummy wear mid-riffs for men to like her? Do I have to do that for daddy?' She says, 'No,' and I said, 'Well then you don't either.'"
Pinkett Smith teamed up with teen agony aunt DR ROBIN SMITH and tennis ace sisters SERENA and VENUS WILLIAMS, who have also penned a new girl power book, on yesterday's (30MAR05) OPRAH show in America to offer advice to young girls.
One fatherless teenager, called MELISSA, confessed she'd had a string of lovers and had been forced to change schools after cruel classmates dubbed her "a whore." She wanted advice on how to stop herself from having sex with every boyfriend.
Pinkett Smith said, "I understand how young girls identify with feeling good about themselves and having sex with boys, especially for young girls who haven't had father figures, which I didn't growing up.
"You're not alone, you're not a slut, you're not a whore and that this can be worked out and overcome."
She also had advice for another girl, called AMANDA, who told the actress she felt she looked "hideous."31/03/2005 09:03
