Palmer's Lover Fights For His Fortune

Late rocker ROBERT PALMER's impoverished lover MARY AMBROSE is fighting for his $54 million (GBP30 million) fortune.

Ambrose had dated Palmer for 12 years until his tragic heart attack in Paris, France, 14 months ago (SEP03), which killed the ADDICTED TO LOVE singer and left his girlfriend in a financial and legal crisis.

Palmer allegedly removed his ex-wife SUE from his will and replaced her with Ambrose, but Switzerland - where Palmer was a tax exile - does not recognise 'common law wives' and is not expected to allow Ambrose access to his estate or future earnings from his back catalogue.

A family friend explains, "She may be forced to leave the house because she can't afford its upkeep. She is even out of pocket over the cost of Robert's funeral.

"Robert made a will years ago when he was living in the Bahamas when he was married, but later he crossed out his wife's name and wrote in Mary's. He had it all witnessed but for some reason the way he did it may not be acceptable in the Swiss courts."

I was a friend and business partner of Robert Palmer's. He was an investor in my company, the Synergy Group, which was an investment firm located in Southern California. I am now retired. I wanted to correct the record on a couple of points in your article. Mary Ambrose never inherited Robert's Lugano mansion. It was sold as part of the Palmer Estate. Also, by September of 2004, at the time of the writing of the article, the Will battle had been concluded. The French Courts had by then dismissed Mary Ambrose's case for lack of evidence. I am afraid the Swiss Courts were not involved in Mary Ambrose's legal matter at all, as was reported. The matter was tried in Paris, France. Mary Ambrose was not Robert Palmer's companion for twelve years prior to his death. Mary was only twenty six years old at the time of Robert's death, and Robert remained married to Susan Palmer till 1999, not 1991 as reported. Susan now lives in Sedona, Arizona. Part of misreporting Mary Ambrose's age is due to a handfull of writers and bloggers. Mary Ambrose's age is a matter of public record. Both Newsweek and Time Magazine reported Mary Ambrose as being twenty six years old in 2003 in Robert Palmer's obituaries. That was correct. Mary was born in 1977. A main offender of this practice is a man named Phil Rauls who has his own site. He claims in his site that that he was "hanging around" backstage in the early nineties with Mary Ambrose. He is lying. Susan Palmer, Robert's wife, attended concerts with Robert in the early nineties. She did so routinely. In the early nineties, Mary was living at home with her parents. Mary's father was Mike Ambrose, a local reporter and weatherman for Channel 10 News in San Diego, California. He was not a restaruant owner, as often reported, due to an errounious blog posted on a Meta Blog site. Mary was also never a waitress. When Phil Rauls was confronted with the bona fide facts, it inspired him to lie even more enthusiastically about the situation and the timeline. He now insists that he has "supportive photos" in his possession of Robert and Mary from the early nineties. He was told by many people to produce the "supportive photos" by posting at least one of them to his site. He has not done so so far. The problem is that the "supporive photos" do not exist. I am afraid that the man has problems. Mary Ambrose's mother requested that Mr. Rauls remove his inflamitory comments regarding her daughter from his site. Raul's impungns Mary's reputation on his site. Mr. Rauls refused to comply. The problem is that Mr. Rauls wants to pretend that he was a great friend of Robert Palmer's, and is trying to stack the deck in his favor. Robert Palmer knew Phil Rauls, he was an acquantance of his, but they were not close. Rauls lied about his relationship and "adventures" with Robert Palmer. Mr. Rauls lives in a dream world. On an interesting note, Phil Rauls started publicly insulting Geraldine Edwards, a girlfriend of Robert Palmers. Robert and Mary were not exclusive. They had an open relationship. Geraldine's husband, whom she has been married to since 2006, is an attorney from Los Angeles, where they live. He came after Rauls with a vengence. Rauls was forced to remove his hostile comments regarding Geraldine from his website. It is people like Phil Rauls that cause confusion in reporting.

My husband and I met Robert Palmer socially in 1981. We remained friends with him until his death. Unfortunately, there are some errors in your article. Mary was not Robert's companion for twelve years. Mary was only twenty-six years old at the time of Roberts death. Robert was not divorced from Susan Palmer in 1993. He was divorced from her in 1999. Robert did have a girlfriend at the time of his death by the name of Geraldine Edwards. Geraldine was the woman Almost Famous was written about. Robert and Geraldine were dating since Robert's divorce in 1999 and had known each other since 1976. Robert did date Mary Ambrose from 2000 to 2003. Mary did work for Robert as his live-in housekeeper and personal assistant from 2000 to 2003 as well. She was twenty-three at the time. Robert met Mary in 1995 at a mutual friend's home in Coronado, California and they remained platonic friends until 2000. In regards to the final outcome of Mary's battle with the Estate of Robert Palmer Mary did not prevail. Her case was dismissed by the French Courts as groundless and without merit in mid-2004. I am afraid the Swiss Courts had no say in the matter whatsoever, and the matter was strictly ajudicated by the French Courts. Thank you.

I am a local writer in San Diego, California and I was a friend of Robert Palmer's since 1979. Mary Ambrose was not Robert's companion for twelve years at the time of his death, because Mary was only twenty-six years old in 2003. Mary did start dating Robert in 2000 and dated him until his death. Mary also worked for Robert as his Household Head of Staff and Personal Assistant from 2000 to 2003. Robert and Mary met in late 1995 when Mary had just turned eighteen at a mutual friends home in San Diego, California. They did not date though, until 2000. Robert was not divorced from Susan Palmer in 1993. They divorced in 1999. Robert started to date Geraldine Edwards after his divorce and she was considered his girlfriend at the time of his death. Robert and Geraldine had known each other since 1976. She was the woman Almost Famous was based on. She also dated Eric Clapton. No one is disputing that Robert dated Mary because he did. When Robert died Mick Carter announced Mary as Robert's live-in girlfriend. He was contacted by legal counsel representing the Palmer family ordering him to stop this practice. Mary was also contacted by legal counsel advising her to stop announcing herself as Robert's live-in girlfriend. The Palmer family recognised her as Robert's live-in employee as did the court. When Mary launced her lawsuit against the Estate of Robert Palmer it was based on will tampering. In mid-2004 the matter was dismissed by the court as without merit. I am afraid Swiss law had nothing to do with the final decision, because the matter was ajudicated by the French Courts. A case may not be tried in two separate venues. And there is some confusion about Mary inheriting the Lugano mansion. In fact, Mary did not inherit the Lugano mansion. It was sold as part of the Estate of Robert Palmer and the proceeds were distributed among Robert's five children from two marriages.

Hello. I was Robert Palmer's neighbor and friend. I met Robert Palmer in Del Mar, California where he routinely maintained a second residence. Robert enjoyed Southern California. I did read your article on Mary Ambrose and her battles with the Estate of Robert Palmer. I met Mary and I know she could not have been Robert's companion for twelve years. Mary was a young woman and was twenty-six years old at the time of Robert's death. Also, Robert's marriage to Susan Palmer was dissolved in 1999, not 1993. As far as I knew, at the time of Robert's death his girlfriend was Geraldine Edwards. He had been dating her since 1999 after his divorce from Susan. He had known Geraldine since the mid seventies and they were very close. Robert did announce Geraldine as his girlfriend on Access Hollywood in 2003. Apparently, Mick Carter, Robert's manager, misreported Mary Ambrose as Robert's girlfriend at the time of his death and was later legally stopped from doing so by the Palmer family. Mary did date Robert from 2000 until his death but she was not considered his girlfriend. Mary did bring a lawsuit against the Estate of Robert Palmer for the full amount of the estate as reported, naming will tampering. Unfortunately for Mary the case was dismissed by the court for lack of evidence in 2004. The case simply was not regarded as meritorious. There is a comment about Mary potentially losing her home in Lugano due to financial constraints. Mary never inherited the house in the first place. The house was definintly sold as part of the Estate of Robert Palmer and it's assets were duely distrubuted to Robert's five children. Thank you.

I met Robert Palmer in London when I was twenty one years old in 1970. We remained friends in his lifetime. Your article regarding Mary Ambrose had some misinformation contained in it. The first thing is the reference about Mary Ambrose being Robert's companion for twelve years at the time of his death. That is incorrect. Mary Ambrose was twenty six years old when Robert died. Mary's age is a matter of public record. It is reported that Susan Palmer and Robert divorced in 1991. That is not correct. Susan requested a divorce in 1999 and Robert complied with her request. When Robert's divorce became final, he started officially dating Geraldine Edwards, his long time friend and muse. Geraldine remained Robert's girlfriend until his death in 2003. They first met in 1976 backstage at the San Diego Sports Arena and later the film Almost Famous was based on Geraldine's backstage adventures. Robert met Mary Ambrose at age eighteen at a friend's home in Coronado, California. Mary was anxious to date Robert upon their meeting, but he passed on her offer. He was working on his marriage to Susan. Mary was a social climber and fixated on Robert. She discovered who his friends were at the party and cultivated them. It paid off. A couple by the name of John and Rae Agostino who lived in Del Mar, California and were friends and business partners of Robert's hired Mary in 1996 as their live-in Au Pair. Now Mary was able to see Robert on a routine basis, platonically. Mary remained in the employ of the Agostinos until late 2000 when Robert employed her as his housekeeper and personal assistant. She was provided her own quarters. Soon Robert and Mary were having an affair. It was not unusual for Robert to have affairs, however. He continued dating Geraldine who preferred to live in her own home, and she remained his girlfriend. Mary was told to date by Robert, he told her that he would not mind. Mary dated many men. She was only twenty three years old in 2000. Robert was twenty seven years her senior. Mary had an affair with Jack Bruce, which ended accrimoniously. Jack remains married today. Mary had a son with Mick Carter, Robert's manager, in 2001. And she had a second son in 2002 with a Swiss Doctor who was a business partner of Robert's. She dated a longtime friend of Robert's named Keith Harledge for a while in 2003. And she dated many others. I don't want to be judgemental, but most of Mary's dates were married. When Robert died while vacationing in Paris with Jack Bruce, not Mary Ambrose, as reported, Mick Carter reported Mary Ambrose as Robert's companion. Carter knew it was not the truth, but he did it to please Mary. Mary could get mean and threatening and Carter did not want trouble. Geraldine was disgusted at Carter's cowardice. Her friend, Eric Clapton came out to spend time with her and to make sure everything was allright. He was wondering what happened, but he figured out what the problem was because Mick Carter was Jack Bruce's manager, too. Before Robert died he had discussed his Will with Geraldine. They both agreed that his Will should be in his children's favour. Robert wrote his will in that manner. He last changed his will in July of 2003. His son, James Palmer, was the Executor of the Estate. Nobody quite knows why, but Mary deluded herself into believing that she was the Executrix of the Estate, discussing with the press an illusory legal meeting that never took place naming her the Executrix. She was undoubtedly empowered by Mick Carter announcing her as Robert Palmer's live-in girlfriend and seeing her name in print next to his. Her happiness did not last long. Both Mick Carter and Mary Ambrose were contacted by the Palmer family's legal representatives. Carter was told to cease and disist from reporting Mary to the press as Robert's live-in girlfriend and Ambrose was told to stop reporting herself as Robert's girlfriend. Business records were produced showing that Mary Ambrose was first and foremost an employee living with Robert in that capacity. Mary Ambrose was also legally enjoinded from writing a book about her and Robert Palmer. Then the Will was read. When Mary discovered she had inherited under $20,000.00, she hired an attorney and told him a sad story of Robert Palmer writing his Will in her favour, and discovering that the Will had been tampered with. In reality, this had not happened. Robert's last Will and Testament was bona fide, and written to his specifications. Mary lost her case in the French Courts. The Swiss Courts had no truck in her legal matter. Mary Ambrose's case was dismissed in 2004. Mary never inherited Robert's Lugano mansion. Mary lied to the press about that. The house was sold as part of the Estate. The proceeds went to Robert's five children from his two marriages to Shelley Palmer and Susan Palmer. And this nonsense about funeral expenses not being paid had nothing to do with reality. The Palmer family arranged their father's funeral. Mary had nothing whatsoever to do with that. In the end, Mary Ambrose was living on charity from Robert's friends and her parents. Mary's father was a retired anchorman who formerly worked for Channel 10 News in San Diego, California, where Mary was raised. His name was Mike Ambrose. He had done well for himself financially. A friend of mine told me that she had been contacted by John Agostino, Mary Ambrose's former employer and friend in 2005. Agostino had informed her that Mary Ambrose had died in London just two weeks before. She was twenty seven years old and had left behind two young sons. She was survived by both her parents and one brother. On a strange note, the U.K. Express wrote an article about an alleged affair that Robert Palmer had with Princess Diana. They described Mary Ambrose as Robert's second wife, apparently forgetting that Susan Palmer had ever existed. And of course, Robert and Mary were not married. They made a comment that Mary Ambrose had to take her "beloved facebook account down" amid allegations and that they were unable to "reach her for comment." The article was written in April of 2010. By then, Mary Ambrose had been dead for nearly five years.

I read your article on Mary Ambrose. I knew Robert since the seventies when I met him in Greenwich. I also knew Mary Ambrose, although I would definitly not call her a friend. Mary moved in to Robert's home in 2000 as his housekeeper and personal assistant. I am not joking. Mary managed Robert's household staff for his two homes in Lugano, Switzerland and Del Mar, California. Robert sold his Del Mar home in late 2002 and was looking for a house in the Los Angeles area near the time of his death. Robert did know Mary platonically since 1995 when Mary was eighteen years old, but he did not date her until 2000 when Mary was twenty three years old. Mary was interested in dating Robert as soon as she met him, but he just was not interested in her at the time. He was still very publicly married to Susan Palmer. Robert and Susan did get divorced in 1999. Mick Carter had misreported their divorce date as 1993 and the error carried. After Robert's divorce from Susan he started dating Geraldine Edwards his long time friend. They had known each other since 1976 and had many mutual friends in common. The movie Almost Famous was based on Geraldine's teenage misadventures. Geraldine did know that Robert did date from time to time and she did not hassle him about it. She was not that type of person. When she found out about Mary, she started referring to her as "Robert's andropausal adventure." Even Robert had to laugh at this. When Robert died the trouble started. Mick Carter, who had had a child with Mary in 2001, felt free to announce Mary as Robert's companion at the time of his death vacationing with him in Paris. That was not true. Mary was not vacationing with Robert in Paris at the time of his death, Jack Bruce was. They both enjoyed Paris and were taking some time off. Mary Ambrose was not Robert's girlfriend, Geraldine Edwards was. Mick Carter was legally censured and prohibited from futher announcing Mary Ambrose as Robert's companion. Mary was similarly censured legally. She was also legally prohibited from writing a book about Robert Palmer. The next problem arose when Mary thought that she was the Executrix of the Estate of Robert Palmer. She arrived dramatically at Robert's Paris law offices and caused a scene wanting to speak with Robert's attorney. She announced grandly that she was the "Executrix" of the estate. She was informed by Attorney Bernard that Mr. James Palmer, Robert's son, was the Executor of the estate. This was when Mary started to become confused. Attorney Bernard gave her the date and time to return to the offices for the reading of the Will. Mary discovered that she had inherited under $20,000.00. That registered with her and she partially exited her dream world. But only partially. She now had imagined that she had been given Robert's Lake Lugano mansion. She told one and all that he had signed it over to her in his lifetime. I am afraid not. It was part of the Estate and was to be sold as such. There was a serious problem getting Mary to leave the house with her two sons. She was in serious financial straights, and the fathers of the children, of which there were two, were not helping her financially. Eventually she was able to borrow enough money to move to London, England. There, she lauched the law suit against the Estate of Robert Palmer, proposing a far fetched and preposterous story about a second Will being written. No second Will was ever written or filed with any court extant. She also promised that she could provide witnesses to the signing of the second Will. When the "witnesses" were contacted they told the court that they knew nothing about the matter, period. The case was dismissed as "groundless and without merit." Mary was really furious by this point. She had called numerous people telling them that she was going to get and I quote "all of Robert's money." I am serious. She never grieved over Robert's death, the only thing she could think of was how soon she would be in receipt of his money. She called his girlfriend Geraldine and told her that "when she got Robert's money, which he owed her, she would give her some." Geraldine was disgusted and hung up on Ambrose. As was right and proper the Estate, including the house and Robert's back earnings, did go to his five children from his two marriages to Shelley Palmer and Susan Palmer. I was informed by John Agostino in mid 2005 that Mary Ambrose had died in London, England. He was a friend of Mary's and Robert's. He told me that her parents who lived in San Diego, California had her body flown back to the States and had her intered in San Diego. I spoke with Geraldine recently, about a month ago. She was laughing because although she has been married for four years now people that she knew prior to being married still insist on calling her by her maiden name, confusing people. For the record her name is Geraldine Flemming-Mueller. She said that this drives her husband Tony insane. You can imagine. She still hears from some of the old group, but as she said everybody has moved on except Mick Carter who still manages to live in the past. His glory days were over when Robert Palmer died.

Laura Delamond's picture

Laura Delamond

Hello. I read your article about Mary Ambrose. I thought I would write in because I knew Mary. You see, I worked for her father, Mike Ambrose since 1975. I was his administrative assistant at both KFMB Radio and Channel 10 News in San Diego, California. Mary's dad was first a top rated disk jockey and then later he worked for Channel 10 News as their weatherman and in the field reporter. Later the station promoted him to lead anchorman. I knew Mike since I was in my early twenties and we were good friends. Mary was not Robert Palmer's companion for twelve years prior to his death. Mary was only twenty-six years old at the time of Robert Palmer's death. I can assure you that at age fourteen she was still living at home with Mike and his wife. There is no question as to Mary's age. I remember the day after Mary was born, which was June 9, 1977 her father returned to work and announced her name over the airwaves. Mary was in receipt of a auspicious debut. Often, Mrs. Ambrose would bring Mary down to visit her father at work. Mary was very friendly as a little girl and she always wanted to see if she could get away with pushing the buttons on her fathers control panel. Her excuse was that she was going to be a disk jockey when she grew up. I remember the birthday party her father gave for her on her eighteenth birthday in 1995. It was quite a to do. Mary had a blast. Mike told me that Mary had met Robert Palmer at his neighbor Terry Porterman's home in Coronado, California in 1995. He had invited Mary to one of his outdoor parties and Mary had accepted. She returned home over the moon over he meeting with Robert. She went out and bought every Robert Palmer album she could find and terrorized her dad by playing his music night and day. In 1996 Mary told her father she was moving out because she was going to work for two of Robert Palmer's friends, John and Rae Agostino. She was going to work for them as their live-in Au Pair. They apparently had two small sons and needed the help. Mike did not approve and thought that Mary could do better, but she insisted. She told him it was her way of being close to Robert. Mike knew there was going to be a problem. When Mike told me that Robert Palmer had hired Mary as his live-in housekeeper and personal assiatant which was in September of 2000, he was not happy. He wanted Mary to move on with her life. She was only twenty-three years old and he did not see any future with her and Robert Palmer. The minute she started dating Robert Palmer she phoned her father to brag of the situation. She had gotten what she had wanted. Her father so happend to know the woman who was regarded as Robert Palmer's girlfriend. She was his personal friend. Mike had never mentioned her name to Mary because he knew it would upset her. The womans name was Geraldine Edwards, I remember that. Mike told me she was the woman the film Almost Famous was based on and that she was now a legal assistant that worked in the Chamber Building with him. They always chatted in the elevator while heading to their offices and eventually he asked her where she worked. She told him and he asked her to lunch that same day. They remained friends ever since. When Mary told her father of her coup, he told her about Geraldine. It was not to be mean, it was to give her a reality check. In the matter of romance, Mike told me that Mary could become obsessive. Mary registered many complaints to her father about Geraldine over the years wondering why Robert wanted anything to do with someone who was "old and used up." Mary was wet behind the ears even in her twenties. When Robert Palmer died in 2003, Mary had Robert Palmer's manger announce her as Robert Palmer's girlfriend. Mike knew there would be trouble over that. He was right. Mary came to him hysterical. She had been served with legal papers that she did not understand by attorney's for the Palmer family. She was now frightened. Legal matters frighten anyone. I should know. My husband is an attorney. Mike reviewed the papers and advised her that the Order was legally prohibiting her from announcing herself as Robert Palmer's live-in girlfriend. It was proven that she was technically living with him as his housekeeper. He got her an attorney to respond to the complaint and the matter was cleared up. Mary would no longer give interviews stating she was Robert Palmer's girlfriend. As Mike explained to his daughter, it came down to a matter of splitting hairs verbally. She was allowed to refer to herself as Robert's lover, companion, etc., but she could not use the phrase live-in girlfriend. They were not exclusive and it was understood that Robert dated. Robert Palmer even admitted to Mike Ambrose that he dated but that he considered Geraldine Edwards his girlfriend. Mike told Robert that he was friends with Geraldine as well. This was at a party that Robert Palmer was kind enough to invite Mike to. Mike was curious so he attended. Mike was always a reporter at heart and he joked saying he was going on a "fact finding mission." When Mary lauched her suit against the Estate of Robert Palmer, her father strongly advised her against doing it. He knew she had no chance of winning and did not want her to be even more upset than she was already. When her case was dismissed by the Paris, France court, Mary once again did not understand exactly what had happened. Her legal counsel had tried to explain to Mary what the outcome was, but Mary went into denial. She started giving interviews stating that she was battling Robert's two children over the estate. That was not true. The matter had been resolved by that point. He father told her to please stop giving those interviews. He told me that Mary had recieved under $20,000.00 from Robert Palmer's will. She was really leaning on him heavily financially by then, because she had had two children by then. Two sons, born in 2001 and 2002. He could not tell her to grow up and take care of her own self because he was concerned over his grandchildren. Mary got into further legal trouble because she thought she was going to write a book about her and Robert Palmer. She was legally enjoined from doing so. She said she was going to do it anyway, but her father finally talked her out of it. Mary could not afford a lawsuit. Mike was retired by that point and Mary was draining his assets at a rapid rate. Mike told me that Mary died in London, England in 2005. He never really got over it. It is never easy to bury a child. I prefer to remember Mary as a happy little girl terrorizing the studio and visiting her dad's friends. Thank you.

After I read this story I decided to write in. I was friends with Robert Palmer since the seventies. I wanted to update the story and correct some information. Taking it from the top, Mary Ambrose was not Robert's companion for twelve years in 2003. Robert dated Mary Ambrose from 2000 to 2003. Mary was only twenty-six years old at the time of Robert's death and I know that he was not dating a fourteen year old, especially while he was married to his wife Susan Palmer. Robert and Susan were married untill 1999. Their divorce was amicible. Robert did know Mary platonically since 1995. She dated him from 2000 to 2003. She was definitley his lover for at least three years. She was employed by a couple he knew as a member of their live-in household staff and he would visit with her while he was visiting his friends. Also, at the time of Robert's death his girlfriend's name was Geraldine Edwards. I had become friendly with Geraldine over the years. We are the same age and had a lot of things in common. When Mick Carter announced Mary as Robert's companion at the time of his death it definintley made the rounds. Her name appeared in all his obituaries. Funny how it never appeared prior to that. As was common knowledge among Robert's friends Mary was legally stopped from giving any more interviews. It was proven that Mary was living in the same house with him because she was his live-in housekeeper. And that is a fact. I remember when Mary came onboard. Later four articles were discovered claiming that Mary was living with Robert Palmer in 1993. Oh sure. She was living with him when she was fifteen years old. I guess Susan did not mind. Right. Mary's age is a matter of public record per Newsweek and Time magazine and those that knew Robert. Her father seemed to think that she was twenty-six at the time too. One man that liked Mary said he had arranged the articles to be posted to the internet as a gift for Mary. Four writers then wrote their articles, backdated them, and posted them in 2003 as if they were always there. People magazine has Robert being happily married to Susan Palmer as late as 1999. Susan was always mentioned in articles about Robert. When those writers, who shall remain unnamed, were confronted about their articles they became blue in the face defending themselves and their work. Who could possibly question them? The entire matter was laughed off. Another problem is that Mary never inherited the Lugano mansion. That house was sold as part of the Palmer Estate. Mary vacated the house, not voluntarily, in 2004. Mary tried to state to the press that she was the Executrix of the Palmer Estate. I'm afraid not. James Palmer was named the Executor of the Estate in 2000, after Susan's name was removed. Mary did sue the Estate of Robert Palmer in 2004, but the upshot was that the French Court's dismissed her case in 2004. She could not bring to bear any witnesses that could back up her claims and no document could be found that Mary purported existed, which was a second will. Robert altered his will in July of 2003 and added a codicil to it, but that was it. No second will was ever written. The will stood as written by Robert Palmer. Mary recieved an inheritance so small it was not to be believed. Later, Mary had what I suppose some people would call a break with reality. She was giving interviews after her case had been dismissed saying it was ongoing. That alarmed people. Then she started harrassing Robert's girlfriend Geraldine. She showed up at her apartment wanting to be let in. Geraldine said no way, and told her to leave. Mary, however, continued to show up. Geraldine did not not know what Mary wanted, nor did she care to find out. Eventually, in late 2004, Geraldine had to move from her apartment to avoid Mary and a couple of other friends of Robert's that she wanted nothing to do with. She moved to a really nice loft in the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, and gave her information only to those she wanted to continue seeing. She was quite happy there untill she moved to Los Angeles in 2006. She got married to her boyfriend that same year. I was informed by a friend of mine who was informed by John Agostino, a friend of Mary Ambrose's that Mary died in London, England in 2005. We were not sure what to believe on that one, because sometimes John was not exactly honest. He would tell a far fetched story and then when confronted would try to backpedal. People can be like that. May Robert rest in peace and I wish his children well.

I read your article on Mary Ambrose's battle with Robert Palmer's children over his estate. Having known Robert Palmer for years, this is what happened. Robert did not write the Will in Mary Ambrose's favor. It was written in favor of his five grown children. Robert was married twice, once to Shelley Palmer and then to Susan Palmer. Robert did have a girlfriend at the time of his death named Geraldine Edwards. She was friends with Robert since 1976. When she was a teenager she would hang around Robert and his mentor, Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records. Sometimes Jack Bruce would join them, too. Robert was very close to her. They were officially dating since late 1999. the year of Robert's divorce form Susan Palmer. Geraldine Edwards was the woman the film Almost Famous was based on. Robert met Mary Ambrose at eighteen at a mutual friends home in Coronado, California. He knew Mary socially from 1996 to 2000 because she was employed by a couple he knew as their live-in Au Pair in Del Mar, California. Robert hired Mary in late 2000 as his housekeeper and personal assistant when she was twenty three years old. There is some dispute over Mary Ambrose's age by certain parties, but both Time magazine and Newsweek reports Mary's age as twenty three in 2003 in Robert Palmer's obituaries. Robert told me that Mary was born in June of 1977. He was many years older than her. Robert admitted to starting an affair with Mary when she first started working for him in 2000. But that is all it ever was, an affair. He was still seeing Geraldine. There was never a day when he did not phone her. Mary had numerous affairs while working for Robert. Everytime one of her affairs would end, she would renew her efforts to get Robert to marry her and remove Geraldine from his life. One one occasion Mary put up a friend and former employer of hers named Rae Agostino to ask Robert to marry her. I witnessed this debacle. Rae said to Robert "Robert, you and Mary live together and you love her. Why don't you make it legal?" Robert replied "Rae, Mary is allowed to stay with me because she is employed by me, the same as when she stayed with you while she was working for you. I do like Mary and she is one of my lovers, but I would never consider marrying her." Mary was standing close to Robert, and the entire room was treated to the sight of Mary's eyes pooling with tears and her lower lip trembling. Soon, she was running across the room and the sight was hard to miss as Mary was 5'9 and over one hundred and seventy pounds. It was akin to a Sherman tank rolling accross the the room. Robert died while vacationing in Paris with Jack Bruce. Mick Carter, Robert's manager then reported Mary Ambrose as Robert's companion. No one was surprised. Carter had made many bad calls in his career and had been the recipient of a fist on more than one occasion and on at least two occasions a gun was brandished in his direction. Carter was one of Mary's dates, and they shared a son who was born in 2001. Mary had another son in 2002 from another Palmer friend. Robert had a vasectomy in 1982 after the birth of his fifth child. When Mary Ambrose sued the Estate of Robert Palmer, she did not get very far. Robert revised his will in July of 2003, after discussing the matter with his girlfriend, Geraldine. It was understood that the Executor of the Estate was James Palmer, so named in 2000. The Paris court dismissed Mary Ambrose's case as "groundless and without merit." Swiss law had nothing to do with the final decision. Mary Ambrose attempted to write a book about her and Robert. She was legally enjoined from doing so. The final humiliation was discovering that she had not inherited the house. The house was sold as part of the estate and the proceeds of the sale were distributed among Robert's five children, as were his wishes.
