Outkast Honoured As Best Act Of 2003
Pioneering hip-hop duo OUTKAST were yesterday (1JAN04) named the best musical act of 2003 in a huge British poll.
Music retailers HMV created the 'poll of polls' by compiling charts and reviews from newspapers and music magazines, including MOJO, Q and NME, and Atlanta, America natives emerged as clear winners with their astounding double album SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW.
ANDRE 3000 and BIG BOI beat 18-year-old British newcomer DIZZEE RASCAL into second place. His debut album BOY IN DA CORNER took last year's (03) coveted MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE.
Progressive rockers THE MARS VOLTA took third spot with DE-LOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM, beating hot favourites THE WHITE STRIPES (ELEPHANT) and THE DARKNESS (PERMISSION TO LAND) into fourth and fifth place respectively.
HMV spokesman GENNARO CASTALDO says, "OUTKAST's album is a real melting pot of styles and rightly deserves the praise which has been heaped on it."05/01/2004 18:04
