Outkast Crowned Awards Victors Again

OUTKAST are continuing to dominate prize-giving ceremonies across the world, scooping three honours at the MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS in Rome last night (18NOV04).

The hip-hop outfit walked away with Best Group, and Best Video and Best Song for HEY YA! - adding to the four gongs they won at the American MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS in August (04) and three GRAMMYS in February (04).

OutKast star ANDRE 3000 - who attended the event without his collaborator BIG BOI - devoted the duo's victories to their loyal fans: "I want to say thank you to all the fans for supporting OutKast throughout the years."

R+B phenomenon USHER picked up the Best Album award for CONFESSIONS and was crowned Best Male, while rockers LINKIN PARK won Best Rock.

British band MUSE also had two reasons to celebrate - they won the Best Alternative Act and Best UK + Ireland Act prizes.

EMINEM's rap group D12 beat off competition from the BEASTIE BOYS, JAY-Z, KANYE WEST and NELLY to triumph in the Best Hip-Hop category.

The grateful STAN star - who opened the show with a crowd-pleasing performance of his latest solo hit JUST LOSE IT - told the audience, "D12 finally won an award, thank you very much."

BRITNEY SPEARS was dealt a major boost amid increasing media probing into her private life - she was named Best Female. ALICIA KEYS left the Tor di Valle venue with a Best R+B gong.

Other winners at the 11th annual awards - hosted by hip-hop artist XZIBIT - include MAROON 5 (Best New Act) and BLACK EYED PEAS (Best Pop).
