Original Hazzard Star Urges Fans To Boycott Movie
LATEST: Former DUKES OF HAZZARD star BEN JONES is urging fans to boycott the anticipated movie adaptation of his classic TV series, branding the project a "sleazy insult".
The actor, a former Georgia congressman who played wisecracking mechanic COOTER DAVENPORT on the popular series from 1979 to 1985, says the profanity and sexual content in the film - starring JESSICA SIMPSON, JOHNNY KNOXVILLE and SEANN WILLIAM SCOTT - make a mockery of the original family friendly show.
Jones, who claims to have read a copy of the script, rants, "Basically, they trashed our show. It's one thing to do whatever movie they want to do, but to take a classic family show and do that is like taking I LOVE LUCY and making her a crack head or something."
Yesterday (13JUL05), Jones wrote an open letter to fans on his website, Cootersplace.com, stating, "From all I have seen and heard, the Dukes movie is a sleazy insult to all of us who have cared about the Dukes Of Hazzard for so long.
"Unless they clean it up before the August 5th (US) release date I would strongly recommend that true blue Dukes fans hold their noses and pass this one up."14/07/2005 02:55
