Ono Remade Give Peace A Chance After 9/11
YOKO ONO decided to remake GIVE PEACE A CHANCE, her duet with her late husband JOHN LENNON, after the events of September 11 (01) left her deeply shaken.
Ono has joined a range of stars, including LENNY KRAVITZ, MARY J BLIGE, WYCLEF JEAN, MISSY ELLIOTT, EVE and ASHANTI, on producer KENNETH 'BABYFACE' EDMONDS' politically-charged album WAKE UP EVERYBODY, and she's included an update of her classic 1969 protest song with Lennon.
She tells ROLLING STONE magazine, "Very soon after 9/11, I got inspired to write new lyrics for Give Peace a Chance. I was deeply shaken by what happened. It reminded me of when John passed away, and the air raids in Tokyo during the Second World War, when I was growing up.
"There were so many widows created so suddenly by this violent act. The situation was, of course, incredibly negative. My knees were shaking for some time after the day' my heart still is.
"But to my surprise, positive things came out of it as well. The most beautiful side of the human heart came out. Together, we witnessed the goodness in is...
"This is not a time when we have the luxury of being negative. We need to know that we're all in the same boat, and if we sink,we're going to sink together."30/08/2004 02:40
