Obie Trice Pleas For Non-Violence At Proof Funeral

20 April 2006
Rapper Obie Trice has warned mourners at the funeral of D-12 star PROOF that gang violence has to stop. The hip-hop star, who was shot in the back of the head on New Year's Eve (31JAN05), addressed the congregation at Detroit, Michigan's Fellowship Chapel yesterday (19APR06), where he also related his memories of late friend Proof. He said, "I want to talk to the black men living in the hood. We're killing each other, and it's about nothing." D-12 rapper Proof - real name DESHAUN HOLTON - was gunned down last week (11APR06) during an altercation inside Detroit's CCC nightclub. A second shooting victim, KEITH BENDER, 35, died on Tuesday (18APR06). Close friend Eminem paid his respects during an emotionally charged service claiming, "without Proof, there would be no Eminem, no Slim Shady". The funeral programme told how the hip-hop pair shared the "friendship of a lifetime".

Obie's right, the violence has got to stop. Black folks are killing each other instead of joining together to stand up for what they believe in.All the gang violence has to stop! Our youth are dying and it's because they don't get the right kind of direction from the adults.Adults can't blame the television, they can't blame the music, they can't blame the friends, all they can blame is themselves. They are responsible for their child, not the world. But when something bad happens they are quick to blame it on Rap and Hip-Hop and the rappers who are trying to make a living out of what they love. They are quick to cast blame on something and someone who didn't cause anything just because they don't want to feel guilty and just because they can't face up to the truth that they did a bad job raising their kid.Adults get your heads out of the clouds! YOU are RESPONSIBLE for YOUR child's well being, NOT Rap, NOT their friends, NOT the television and NOT music!YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE! IT'S YOU THAT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! STOP CASTING BLAME AND TAKE SOME YOURSELVES!THE VIOLENCE AND HATRED AND GANGS HAVE GOT TO STOP!
