New York's Mayor MIKE BLOOMBERG is determined to celebrate the OSCARS in style - plans to light up the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING like a golden ACADEMY AWARD are going ahead.
Bloomberg has declared Sunday (23MAR03) OSCAR DAY in the city and he's urging New Yorkers to celebrate the Academy Awards, and prompting party planners to go ahead with their bashes.
He himself will join JOAN COLLINS at the LA CIRQUE party, but it's magazine ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY's bash at ELAINE'S which promises to be the most star studded.
SEAN 'P DIDDY' COMBS and magician DAVID BLAINE are among the definites at the bash, where house drinks will include cocktails Lord of The Rums and Polanski's Punch.
Guests at Elaine's will be rewarded for turning up with a $25,000 (GBP16,670) gift basket, which will include customised DKNY pants, a vacuum cleaner and an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas, Nevada.
