Mortensen Defends Bush Criticism

THE LORD OF THE RINGS star VIGGO MORTENSEN refuses to apologise for his recent attack on US President GEORGE BUSH - maintaining the political leader is a "beast".

The outspoken actor hit out at Bush after his controversial handling of Hurricane Katrina, but also disagrees with the President's Iraq policies, gossip site The Scoop reports.

He fumes, "I'm not anti-Bush; I'm anti-Bush behaviour. In other words, I'm against cheating, greed, cruelty, racism, imperialism, religious fundamentalism, treason, and the seemingly limitless capacity for hypocrisy shown by Bush and his administration.

"CINDY SHEEHAN (peace activist whose son was killed in Iraq) and how badly Katrina was bungled are two shots to the heart. I hope the beast does fall down soon."

The beauty of being born, raised and living in the good old USA is that you can critize even the leader of our country. I am a great admirer of both President Bush and Viggo Mortensen. I do not admire Cindy Sheehan, she is a user and a publicity seeker at the expense of all that encounter her. Since I am in this country I am allowed to do say that. I would vote for him again given the chance. We can't blame all the problems that befall our country on one person, it is what it is, life in the most intense sense of the word.If you are unhappy here, women especially, go live in the middle east where you are treated as chatel at best, then come back, your perpective will be greatly improved then. As for Cindy Sheehan.......she has had her 15 minutes at the benefit of a son she did not even raise. She was looking for a forum and she finally got one, the fact she has risked all her other children and her husband and friends shows just how unstable this woman is. I think we should always check our facts not just take a person's word for what is going on because we feel badly for them. This war is tragic, but not just for her. There are neccessary evils in the world - war is one of them. Shame on her and all that follow her around and pan for the cameras. Issues of this type should be private. Her son was proud to be an American and a Soldier, she should go home and salvage her life instead of blaming others for her lot in life. We have all lost someone we love to illness or tragedy, common sense says we don't blame the world.Using common sense is the biggest problems we have in this country, no one wants to!!

I personally think when all's said and done, those who have been so quick to criticize will come away with egg on their faces...

Why should Mr. Mortensen apologize for expressing his opinion? He has that right guaranteed to him by the Constitution-freedom of speech. It isn't just for the media! Thank God, this is a country where we have these freedoms, and we also have the right to exercise these freedoms. In this instance, I do agree with his views. I do not feel our military people should be dying to protect Bush's oil interests, or those of his minions. However, if I didn't agree with Mr. Mortensen, I would still defend his right to his opinions, and his right to exercise his freedoms.

I don't believe Mr. Mortensen needs to apologise for his comments about Bush, I couldn't agree with him more. I was raised to respect those in authority, however in this case my respect died a long time ago. I just hope Bush is a better man than he is President. For those who are against what Mrs. Sheehan has done obviously are not parents and don't know or understand the lengths a parent would go to find out the answers as to why their child has died.
