Metallica Get Safe

Metallica have become the safest group in rock 'n' roll after creating a pyrotechnics crew to keep stagehands, photographers and crew from getting burned by flashes and fireworks.

The group love to "light up" during live shows and treat fans to pyro displays, but frontman James Hetfield is keen to make sure no-one gets burned like he did when he was standing in the wrong spot during the band's 1992 tour.

Cameraman JAMES MINCHIN (corr), who often captures Metallica live, says, "They have people grabbing you off the stage, and there are warning lights going off backstage so you know exactly when it's going to happen."
