McKeown Booed Onstage

BAY CITY ROLLERS frontman LES McKEOWN disappointed fans attending his comeback concert on Saturday (18FEB06) after he arrived 90 minutes late and forgot lyrics to the band's hit songs.

Angry audience members demanded refunds and branded the ageing star's performance "an hour of inaudible noise".

However, the BYE BYE BABY hitmaker insists he was humorously pretending to forget words to the songs, and blames the hall's poor acoustics for the unflattering reviews of his singing voice.

Ferneham Hall spokesman ROD CAMERON says, "He couldn't sing at all. It wasn't a good show."

I saw les mckeown at blast from the past in glasgow last week and he was pissed out his box. he was a total embarrasment, he managed to empty half the venue after a couple of songs. If this gig was not for charity, he would have completely emptied the venue after a couple of songs.

Les is suffering with laryngytis at the moment which is why he isn't in the best of health. For someone who is a singer that's a pretty serious complaint.

Les McKeown ROCKS! He has a ton of fans & a HUGE following. I am not sure who the concert goers you talked to were, BUT I can assure you that Les put on a good show. Why the bad publicity? You interviewed a biased group & that's unfortunate.Jill Puich

I wasn't at the Fareham gig but did go to Croydon a week earlier. I was amazed at the handful of attendees there who complained because Woody, Alan, Derek and Eric weren't on stage with Les (not that they were promised, it was promoted as Les McKeown's Legendary Bay City Rollers after all!), they also complained because over the years Les has altered some of the arrangements of old BCR songs a little - these whingers would have preferred everything to have sounded like the 70's, and finally they complained because Les dared to include some of his new material and a cover song of somebody else's. I can only feel sorry for these pathetic people because they are clearly stuck in a bloody big timewarp! Les gave a great performance that was enjoyed by (almost) all in spite of his throat problems. He was the consumate professional. I saw a hall full of folks dancing and singing along, rushing the stage to get up close, and having nothing but fun. I've yet to see any of this being reported however? Maybe those writing these articles should venture to a gig and see what goes on for themselves instead of listening to a pack of lies being peddled by people who I doubt were even there but are just out to cause trouble for Les because he's finally out on the road touring!

Cindy Redmond, ...

I was over the moon to win tickets to see Les McKeown and the Bay City Rollers when they performed in the Star Hall, Crumlin, Dublin, Ireland on 24th February. To be a few feet away from my teenage heart-throb after 30 years was one of the best times of my life. Les gave a fantastic performance, was witty and very well received by all there. The experience was well worth waiting over 30 years for. In the height of there fame I would never have got that close to him.I managed to get his autograph and plenty of photos. I even got a to give him a kiss and got one back. Although I'm almost 45, I feel like a teenager again - thanks to Les and I can't stop singing his songs to myself. Thanks again to Les McKeown for a wonderful night.Cindy Redmond.

I was at a concert too in Croydon and the reports were again untrue. Once again he was not due on until 9pm and I feel that the promoters should have provided more entertainment/warm up value. The show went down well with the crowd. Let's not forget that less than a year ago Les played at places like Wembley and once again went down a storm.

I was at this gig and can only add to what has already been said, didn't hear any BOO'S, only screaming and people really enjoying themselves, think the problem lies with Fernham hall and no where else.

I think this is an unfair and in accurate article. I have heard he wasnt due onstage until nine oclock. He is not in the best of health at the moment and well quite frankly Fareham I have heard is not the best of venues! Less one sided reporting would be much better!
