McGovern: 'No Regrets Over Lost Hollywood Career'
ONE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA star ELIZABETH McGOVERN has no regrets over quitting her Hollywood career for quiet family life in London.
The Oscar-nominated actress had leading roles opposite BRAD PITT, KEANU REEVES, SIR MICHAEL CAINE, ROBERT DE NIRO and ROBERT DUVALL during the 1980s and early 1990s, until she turned her back on Tinseltown to marry British film-maker SIMON CURTIS in 1992 and raise their daughters MATILDA and GRACE.
McGovern says, "I found my idea of heaven in Britain.
"There is something about an actress' career which is always full of regrets. But the thing I have learned over the years is that it's a complete waste of energy. It did take me a long time to accept that."
McGovern was briefly engaged to SEAN PENN after falling in love on the set of RACING WITH THE MOON, shortly before the brooding actor married MADONNA.
She adds, "Believe me, I have absolutely no regrets about not becoming Mrs Sean Penn. Sean and I dated on and off for two years and let's just say I wouldn't disagree with the image of him being hot-headed. Although, of course, I haven't seen him for many years and I'm sure he's mellowed."
