McCready: 'Pregnancy Led To Suicide Attempt'
MINDY McCREADY shocked a Tennessee courtroom on Monday (19SEP05), when she claimed that she attempted suicide in July (05) after learning she was pregnant.
McCready, who was released from jail earlier this month (SEP05) on a $50,000 (GBP27,000) bail on a charge of probation violation, appeared in court to appeal the terms of the bail agreement.
The 28-year-old country singer said she went to Florida to be with her family after a drink driving arrest in Nashville, Tennessee, and a beating from her boyfriend.
She said in court, "I had just been through a horrible ordeal. I was going to visit family... I attempted to commit suicide after I found out I was pregnant."
McCready was on probation after pleading guilty last year (04) to fraudulently obtaining the painkiller OxyContin at a pharmacy in Williamson County, Tennessee.
She left Tennessee without permission and didn't report to her probation officer during the entire month of July, authorities said. It was her second probation violation.
McCready was arrested on 26 August (05) in Florida and taken to the Williamson County Jail, where she spent 10 days before being released on bail.
Prosecutors said part of the reason they agreed to her release was because she was experiencing medical complications from the pregnancy.
McCready will face trial on 14 November (05) on the probation violation.
