May Closes Bone Marrow Charity
QUEEN guitarist BRIAN MAY has closed the BRITISH BONE MARROW DONOR APPEAL, after backing the fund for 15 years.
The charity is now redundant, as its purpose - maintaining a register of bone marrow donors for leukaemia victims - has been taken over by the UK's NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE.
May insists the popular charity, which donated $1.8 million (GBP1 million) to blood services nationwide on Tuesday (07JUN05), should be proud of their valuable work over the years.
The wild-haired rocker has been a vociferous supporter of the fund since a leukaemia patient asked for Queen hit WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER to be played at her funeral.
May was also inspired to re-record the emotional song to raise cash for the appeal.09/06/2005 17:46
