Netflix To Launch In Netherlands: Its 41st Country! 3725533 News

Netflix is to launch in the Netherlands in late 2013. The streaming giant is currently available in 40 countries worldwide and provides a range of film and television shows on demand. It is the biggest internet television channel with 36 million users, according to their website.

Fees for subscription are relatively low especially in comparison with other commercial television channels such as Sky and Virgin. Dutch users, as in the 40 countries where it is currently available, will be able to stream videos from their computer, tablet, mobile, television or any device which has internet connection.

The company has expanded dramatically since it was established in 2009. In doing so Netflix has been able to finance a number of independent projects including their critically acclaimed (and hugely popular) dramas such as House of Cards and Arrested Development

Arrested Development originally aired on the American network Fox from 2003-2006. The show was cancelled after its third season. A fourth series of the show was released on Netflix in May 2013. Amongst those celebrating Netflix's decision to continue Arrested Development were comedian Ricky Gervais, singer-turned-actress Mandy Moore and writer Seth Meyers. The trio, along with a host of other celebrities tweeted their pleasure at hearing the series was once again back on our screens.

Earlier this week director Steven Spielberg, addressing film students at the University of Southern California, praised the American based company for financing smaller projects. He was explaining to the students, attending the opening of their new School of Cinematic Arts Building, that Hollywood is due, owing to the limited number of films it produces, for an 'implosion'.

When asked if the director had any intention of working with Netflix on any future projects he said he "had nothing to announce".

Tangled 2073939 Videos 1st November 2010

Everyone knows the story of Rapunzel, even our favourite green ogre, Shrek, has heard of the fair maiden. Tangled takes a new look at what really happened to the young girl with flowing locks of blonde hair. Princess Rapunzel lives in a tower - where she's been locked away for years by an evil woman wishing to harness the youth generating power Rapunzel's hair produces - and the truth behind her escape has never been told; what actually happened is the princess accidently takes a bandit by the name of Flynn Rider hostage! Rapunzel steals Flynn's satchel (containing lots of precious yet stolen items) and she tells him that she will return his loot if he helps her escape.

Flynn agrees to the arrangement and the two begin their quest to return the maiden back to the city she hasn't entered since she was a baby.

Moore: 'Don't Label Me Religious' 1722180 News Pop star MANDY MOORE is baffled by her religious reputation and fears goody goody movie roles and her scandal-free career has given people the wrong idea.
The recently married singer/actress has even had to clear up her 'beliefs' on first dates.
She explains, "I don't actually think of myself as a religious person, per se. Spiritual, yes. I think I was cast in a role of being religious because of (films like) Walk To Remember... People were like, 'You keep playing these Christian characters.' I grew up Catholic but not even a good Catholic. I don't think religion really factored in.
"I always thought it was funny; I remember dating someone once and when we first were starting to get to know each other, he was like, 'You're really Christian, like, you're really religious, aren't you?' And I was like, 'No, not at all, actually'.
"I think it was just the media. I think it was just this perception of me because I had done those film roles and I guess I was kind of quiet and there wasn't anything too scandalous about me and I was a pretty modest dresser."
And Moore, who releases her latest album of summer pop tunes, Amanda Leigh, next week (26Jun09), is now having to deal with question about her new husband Ryan Adams' reputation as a wild guy.
She adds, "I always think there's more than to people than what meets the eye. I feel lucky because outside the little things - like some people see me as potentially religious - I think it's pretty accurate. Who I am and the reality is fairly close but I know that's not the case with everyone.
"I think that's the category that he (Adams) falls under, so I think, if anything, it further instills in me that what you see is not always what you get... He's wonderful. Hopefully, in due time, if people have an unkind idea of who he is, maybe one day that will sort of shift.
"I feel like an incredibly lucky girl because I get to spend my days with my best friend and he's a wonderful person and I really feel lucky that I get to learn and grow with him."

License To Wed
Trailer

License to Wed follows newly engaged Ben Murphy (John Krasinski) and his fiancée, Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore), in their quest to live happily ever after. The problem is that Sadie's family church, St. Augustine's, is run by Reverend Frank (Robin Williams), who won't bless Ben and Sadie's union until they pass his patented, 'foolproof' marriage-prep course. Consisting of outrageous classes, outlandish homework assignments and some outright invasion of privacy, Reverend Frank's rigorous curriculum puts Ben and Sadie's relationship to the test. Forget happily ever after-do they even have what it takes to make it to the altar?

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Robert Simonds/Phoenix Pictures production of a Ken Kwapis film, 'License To Wed.' The film stars Robin Williams, Mandy Moore, John Krasinski, Christine Taylor, Eric Christian Olsen and Josh Flitter.

Directed by Ken Kwapis from a screenplay by Kim Barker and Tim Rasmussen & Vince Di Meglio and story by Kim Barker & Wayne Lloyd, 'License to Wed' is produced by Mike Medavoy, Arnold W. Messer, Nick Osborne and Robert Simonds. Bradley J. Fischer, David Thwaites, Kim Zubick, Dana Goldberg and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers, with Christine Sacani, Trevor Engelson and Louis Phillips co-producing.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography John Bailey and production designer Gae Buckley. The editor is Kathryn Himoff, with music by Christophe Beck.
'License To Wed' will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

The Princess Diaries 2153962 Film Reviews

Ah, the good ol' heavy glasses and frizzy hair -- Hollywood's hackneyed, telltale token of a plain girl due to have her life transformed by a makeover. Every generation of American girls gets a version of this tale thrust upon them, and this year's model is Disney's "The Princess Diaries," the story of a private school outcast who discovers she's heir to the throne of an obscure (read: fictional) European monarchy.

But this isn't your grandma's glass slipper flick. Our heroine is Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway from Fox TV's "Get Real"), a brainy, affably wry San Francisco teenager who is none too sure she even wants the crown when the grandmother she's never met comes for a visit and reveals -- surprise! -- she's the queen of Genovia.

"My expectation in life is to be invisible, and I'm good at it," Mia proclaims at the beginning of the movie. But while she skeptically contemplates accepting or renouncing her royalty -- and the responsibility and exposure that would come with it -- Mia does acquiesce to getting the "Pygmalion" treatment from her grandma (the oh-so-apropos Julie Andrews) during daily visits to the Genovian consulate.

Of course it isn't long before Mia's secret is out, what with her conspicuous new look (straight, shiny locks, plucked brows, makeup and contact lenses) and the limo driver/bodyguard/father-figure confidant (Hector Elizondo) that sticks close to her at grandma's insistence. Suddenly she's the school's "it" girl, a boy magnet and a local media darling -- and she's just not sure how to cope.

"The Princess Diaries" is a refreshingly -- but not aggressively -- reformist fairy tale that doesn't talk down to its audience or try too hard to be kiddie-hip like Disney's "Parent Trap" remake. Writer Gina Wendkos ("Coyote Ugly") peppers the screenplay with realistic adolescent wit ("Just in case I'm not enough of a freak already, let's add a tiara!" Mia grouses). Director Garry Marshall, working from his "Pretty Woman" template, plays up the fresher humor (fashion-handicapped Mia trying to put on pantyhose in the back of a limo as it goes up and down San Francisco hills) and exercises relative moderation in the less creative comedic moments (Mia's klutziness at a state dinner).

But the film does suffer from "It's Just A Kids' Movie" Syndrome, the major symptom of which is transparently lazy storytelling that prevents "Diaries" from fully realizing its potential. It's frequently narrated by inane fake "news reports" and is positively perforated with petty but nagging plot punctures -- many of them relating to how the ludicrously nonsensical Genovian political structure bends to accommodate the story and locale. These holes could have easily been patched if Marshall had cared enough to make the effort.

More significant complaints: Mia actually looks better before her makeover (afterwards she's totally generic). Central characters are unevenly drawn (supposedly insecure Mia seems perfectly self-confident 50 percent of the time). Personality traits are often highly contrived (Mia goes indoor rock-climbing and petitions to save the Spotted Owl). And Marshall pads the run time unnecessarily with irrelevant and self-contained asides, like a cable car crash and a scene in which bubble gum pop singer Mandy Moore (making her acting debut as the catty, blonde cheerleader from central casting) badly lip-syncs to her own cover of Connie Francis' "Stupid Cupid."

Couldn't this stuff have been cut so we could get to the inevitable royal ball and gorgeous gown climax 20 minutes faster?

For the most part, the movie's warm, smart and romantic elements outnumber its annoying shortcomings, and the three lead actors are winsome enough to carry "The Princess Diaries" though its rough patches. Hathaway finds a charmingly flustered core to her inconsistent character and brings it to the forefront. Andrews is ideal as the primly regal queen who isn't afraid of her footloose side. And Elizondo adds an extra touch of humanity with some droll observational humor and fatherly advice.

Had Marshall aimed a little higher and tried a little harder, "The Princess Diaries" might have been a movie that anyone could enjoy without having to lower themselves to that "it's just a kids' movie" mindset. But even with its flaws, it is a movie that young girls will likely remember fondly and vividly as they grow up. 8th March 2005 http://images.contactmusic.com/images/reviews/princessdiaries.jpg
