Mad Max Movie Axed

Actor MEL GIBSON's return to the MAD MAX franchise that made him a star has come to a premature end - movie bosses have axed the much-delayed fourth installment.

Huge amounts of money has been invested in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD but logistical difficulties in African country Namibia - where the action film was scheduled to be shot - have emerged as the key cause of its demise, according to reports in Australia.

The project has already been plagued with problems - security concerns stopped cameras rolling on the Kalahari desert set last July (04), forcing film-makers to postpone the movie.

The desert in Namibia was earmarked for filming because it's sparsely populated and reflected the look of the previous movies which were largely filmed in Australia.

However, now plans to film on the desert have been thwarted, director GEORGE MILLER admits filming could not take place elsewhere because the Kalahari offers a hard surface for the vehicles that were to be used in the movie.
