London Hails The Kinks

THE KINKS' classic tune WATERLOO SUNSET has been crowned the greatest ever song about London in a new poll.

An overwhelming 40 per cent of listeners to London radio station CAPITAL FM voted for the 1967 tune.

The RAY DAVIES-fronted band beat out competition from THE CLASH's LONDON CALLING, in second place, and PET SHOP BOYS hit WEST END GIRLS, in third.

Reggae star EDDY GRANT's ELECTRIC AVENUE and WEREWOLVES OF LONDON, by WARREN ZEVON, completed the top five.
