Live 8 Donate $3 Million To Prince's Trust

British royal PRINCE CHARLES' charity THE PRINCE'S TRUST will receive $3 million (GBP1.6 million) from LIVE 8's ticket text lottery, after the trust was forced to axe its annual PARTY IN THE PARK fund-raiser to make was for the historic gig.

Campaigning rocker SIR BOB GELDOF was determined to hold the star-studded concert on 2 July (05) at London's Hyde Park, to coincide with the G8 Summit taking place in Scotland, because he wants the extravaganza to persuade leaders of the eight largest industrial nations to cancel Third World debt, double the aid budget and rewrite global trade laws so developing countries can protect their economies.

And Charles' charity will be rewarded for scrapping their show, with the first GBP1.6 million from text messages sent in a competition to win tickets to the concert - additional money raised will go towards the cost of staging the event.

Live 8 organisers will open the ticket lottery on Monday (06JUN05) when people will have to text the answer to a multiple choice competition question for the chance to win one of the 145,000 tickets, with each entry costing $2.85 (GBP1.50) plus the normal text rates.

A Prince's Trust spokesman says, "During talks with Bob Geldof and the BAND AID FOUNDATION, The Prince's Trust and CAPITAL RADIO were happy to cancel this year's Party in the Park to support Live 8.

"Mr Geldof and his team were anxious that disadvantaged young people in the UK did not suffer as a result and offered to give The Trust and HELP A LONDON CHILD money from the ticket ballot."

Prince's Trust chief executive MARTINA MILBURN adds, "Thanks go to Bob Geldof and his team for their generosity and support of our work with disadvantaged young people."
