Lil' Kim Gets Prison Sentence For Lying About Shoot-Out
Rapper LIL' KIM has been sentenced to serve a year and a day in prison for lying to a federal grand jury about those responsible for a 2001 shooting outside a Manhattan, New York radio station.
The rap star, real name KIMBERLY JONES, was convicted of three counts of perjury and one count of conspiracy in March (05).
She has also been ordered to pay a $50,000 (GBP27,770) fine and will face a further three years on probation, once her jail time is served.
The rapper told the grand jury she did not notice two of her close friends at the scene of the shoot-out between rival gangs, but her manager DAMION BUTLER and GUTTA JACKSON have since pleaded guilty to gun charges.
And Butler was seen opening a door for the rapper in security photographs provided by the radio station, WQHT-FM.
The shoot-out is believed to have started when Lil' Kim's entourage came face to face with rival rappers CAPONE-N-NOREAGA, who were involved in chart hit, BANG, BANG, which criticised Lil' Kim.
The rapper clutched a Bible and wept as the terms of her conviction were read by Judge GERARD LYNCH in court today (06JUL05). Lynch attacked her for being dishonest, stating that her lies were an insult to him.
Sobbing Jones said, "It was wrong, and this is the worst thing I've ever been through."06/07/2005 09:14
