Leigh Shocked By Catholic Response To Abortion Movie
Celebrated director MIKE LEIGH is shocked POPE JOHN PAUL II's official radio station supported his latest movie VERA DRAKE, about illegal abortions in 1950's London.
The film-maker was amazed VATICAN RADIO complimented his controversial film, following its premiere at September's (04) VENICE FILM FESTIVAL, because the Catholic Church teaches that all human life is sacred, so the killing of an unborn baby is evil.
He says, "When we showed the film at Venice, Vatican Radio surprisingly came out in favour of the film.
"I don't know what's going to happen in Catholic countries, but I will certainly be involved in press. I am fascinated to know how it's going to go."22/11/2004 03:28
