Lawrence Keen To Dodge Comic Book Pitfalls
Director FRANCIS LAWRENCE has dismissed complaints over the location of his big budget comic book adaptation CONSTANTINE - because its Los Angeles setting has made the movie believable.
The former music video creator angered fans of the original HELLBLAZER comic book by changing the location of the story to LA from London, and casting KEANU REEVES in the lead role of JOHN CONSTANTINE, who was blond and British in the original animated series.
But 20 minutes of advance footage has largely impressed fans - and Lawrence is adamant his alterations will pay off.
Lawrence told British film magazine EMPIRE, "I was sick of all those Dutched angles and the campiness that comic books bring out. What I hope we've done with this movie, despite the changes, is what the best of the comic book does. Make it feel real."19/01/2005 13:53
