Lavigne Stalker Arrested

An American man has been arrested for allegedly stalking pop star AVRIL LAVIGNE.

James Speedy, 30, was taken into custody by Seattle Police accused of sending the 19-year-old singer harassing letters and emails - the same day Lavigne played a free concert in the Washington city.

Seattle native Speedy was later released on $5,000 (GBP2,700) bail.

Detective JERRY REINER refused to reveal the content of Speedy's letters, but said, "These did place the family of Avril Lavigne, and Avril Lavigne herself, in fear."

Officers have been investigating the case since last summer (03) - when they were contacted by police in Ontario, Canada.
