Knight Ordered To Make Big Payout To Former Partner
MARION 'SUGE' KNIGHT has been ordered to pay $107 million (GBP56.3 million) to a woman who claims she helped the rap mogul start DEATH ROW RECORDS.
In a judgment issued earlier this month (MAR05), Superior Court Judge RONALD M SOHIGIAN ruled that Knight and his lawyers failed to answer questions and provide information in the case, and must now compensate LYDIA HARRIS.
In her 2002 lawsuit, which didn't reach trial, Harris claimed she and Knight in 1989 became equal founding partners of Death Row Records. She alleged that when Knight realised how lucrative the label would become, he launched a smear campaign to oust her.
Her lawyer DAVID CASSELMAN says, "His conduct made it clear that he did not intend to honour his agreement or pay the shares of profit due her. He also publicly insulted her and falsely accused her of promiscuity and incompetence."30/03/2005 21:19
