King Chose Blues For Money

Legendary blues star BB KING planned to become a preacher - until he realised he could earn more money as a blues star. The veteran songwriter and guitarist, who made his 10,000th performance at his New York City club last month (APR06), admits money and respect played a large part in his choice of career. He says, "I wanted to be a gospel singer and preacher like our pastor was. "The first electric guitar I heard was played by my pastor in church. But the money wasn't right. "When I would sing gospel, the people would simply pat me on the head. When I sang the blues, people would give me money."
