Keys: Broken Home Made Me Who I Am

R+B superstar Alicia Keys attributes her strong personality to being raised solely by her mother - and believes she'd now be "less secure" if her father had been there as well.

The FALLIN' singer, 23, is grateful for the positive effect a broken home has had on her self-esteem.

She says, "People think it's kinda negative when you don't have both a mother and father figure in your life, but for me it was a positive thing.

"Being raised by my mother, I saw a strong determined woman - she taught me how to juggle things without even knowing it.

"I think if my dad had been around, I'd be a little less secure in myself now."
