Keys Visits Kenyan Health Project
Grammy Award-winner ALICIA KEYS visited a children's health project she helps to fund in Mombasa, Kenya, on Wednesday (05APR06). Crowds of excited locals rallied round to see Keys tour the children's clinic at Coast Provincial Hospital, which benefits from the Brooklyn-based charity Keep A Child Alive, which provides medicine to African parents and children diagnosed with AIDS. The clinic's head, ANDERSON KAINDI, told reporters after the visit, "Alicia learnt about the blight of children in Kenya from a medical doctor who used to work here. The doctor is currently furthering his studies in the United States." Since 2004, Keep a Child Alive has been shipping anti-retroviral drugs to the facility in Mombasa, where around 4,000 children get free treatment. Keys is expected to follow her Kenyan tour with a trip to Uganda this weekend (08-09APR06).
